SCAR is a project of capturing the beauty of traditional designs of Australia’s first peoples, using photographs and then carving the prints with lines of cultural design language and also expressing the trauma of generational oppression from first and second contact. These painted and scarification designs on skin and country are a beautiful reminder of Indigenous culture and the survival of this nations first peoples.
I am an Indigenous photographer and media professional from Broome, Western Australia. As a Djugan and Yawuru man with tribal connections to Jabirr Jabirr and Gooniyandi people, I am inspired by the unique landscapes and people of the Kimberley region, which feature prominently in my work.
